Biography

As a policy advisor at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Headquarter, Germany. Dr Susanne Conrad has been working on approaches and new challenges in the field of security and rule of law in fragile and conflict-affected situations in sub-Saharan Africa since 2021. Her work focuses on the analysis of effective interventions (peace and training missions), transnational threats (Islamist militancy), improving governance in security and defence issues (governance and security sector reform) and modernising access to justice to resolve and prevent conflicts on the African continent.

This also includes supervising the activities of the Regional Programmes for Security Policy Dialogues in West and East Africa (SIPODI West & East) and the two Regional Programmes for Rule of Law (Anglophone & Francophone) in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to this position, Dr Conrad was Senior Programme Manager for European Foreign and Security Policy at the KAS Brussels Office from 2013 onwards, mainly focusing on China, the Sahel and Indo-Pacific region.
