Dr. Cosmas Mwikirize is the Superintendent-Industrial Value Chains Development at the Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat-Office of the President. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating the implementation of strategic research, technology development and innovation to facilitate development of Uganda’s priority industrial value chains. Previously, he was a lecturer at Makerere University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. As a Fulbright Scholar, he obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University-USA. He also holds a master’s degree in biomedical engineering (Rutgers); a master’s degree in electrical engineering (Makerere University & Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Makerere University). He has previously undertaken industrial residency at Philips Research North America in the Ultrasound Imaging and Interventions group. He is an avid researcher and inventor in the field of medical devices, medical imaging, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems. He has 6 patents with USPTO & WIPO (2 in medical devices on the market), and numerous international awards. Cosmas is the President of the Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts (ICSOE) of Central and East Africa, under the auspice of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Over the years, he has directly mentored the founders of at least 10 Innovation Driven Enterprises globally
